    Automatically store excess energy produced by your solar system which you can use when the sun isn’t shining.


    Your solar system will charge your battery in 4 to 8 hours, depending on battery and solar system size, and daytime energy usage.


    If the power goes out, you can stay comfortable and keep select appliances running with the addition of backup power.*


    Enjoy our 3.95% p.a comparison rate^ on a 5-year plan for standalone batteries or bundled with a solar system.

*Backup power is available for an additional $899. How solar batteries work

Solar batteries work hand in hand with your solar panels. As your panels convert the sun’s rays into solar energy, your battery will store that energy for you to use at a later time. In a setup with only panels and an inverter, your home uses the energy being produced and the excess is sent off to the grid. The battery intercepts this energy and stores it for later use, so you can use your own solar energy when the sun isn’t shining or your solar system isn’t producing enough to cover your household energy needs.

Batteries can also serve as a back up for your home in the event of a power outage. If the power goes out you can use the stored battery power to keep pre-determined appliances running.*

    Sunverge SIS 11.6

    This battery is suited to a 4.5 kW solar system with a total storage of 11.6 kWh. It can power a home for approximately three to nine hours depending on household consumption.

  2. Sunverge SIS 19.4

    Sunverge SIS 19.4

    This battery is suited to a 5 kW solar system with a total storage of 19.4 kWh. It can power a home for approximately five to 15 hours depending on household consumption.

Frequently asked questions

What is the expected lifespan of a battery?

The batteries in our range are warranted to last for 7,000 cycles or a total of 10 years (whichever comes first). Please see the link here to the full details of the warranties offered for the battery product you are considering.

What are the storage capacities of the batteries?

Our battery offering ranges in sizes from 11.6 kWh and 19.4 kWh.

Will my solar battery power my entire home?

The current generation of solar batteries cannot completely power an average home in all circumstances. However, the right battery from AGL can greatly decrease your reliance on energy from the grid. We’ll work with you to determine the best option for your home and tailor a solution that meets your needs.

Can I charge my battery from the grid?

Yes. If your solar system is not producing enough energy to charge your battery, you can opt to power it from the grid. This will require a configuration change that AGL can make to your battery remotely.

How long does a battery installation take?

Most battery installations are handled by a team of 2 to 3 installers and can be completed in less than a day.

Can my battery be installed the same time as my solar system is installed?


Does the power need to be switched off during installation?

Yes. We will need to switch off the mains power for up to approximately 4 hours in order for our installers to work safely on your switchboard while they reconfigure it for you battery.

Where can the battery be installed?

A battery can be installed outside as long as it’s not on a north facing unshaded wall (where its performance could be affected by heat). Alternatively, some batteries are suitable for installation in a non-habitable space such as a garage.

Will I need concreting or other reinforcement to support the battery?

The batteries we offer weigh over 300 kg and need to be mounted securely on a concrete base.

Do I need a new solar inverter when I add a battery?

If you’re adding an AC coupled battery, you can keep your existing inverter.

Customers with three phase solar inverters may need to replace their three phase solar inverter with a single phase solar inverter. Please see the FAQ regarding three phase homes below.

Can batteries be installed in three phase homes?

AGL’s battery installations include a single phase battery inverter, and are suitable for use in homes with single phase supply or three phase supply (if the home has a single phase solar inverter). Customers with three phase solar inverters may need to replace their three phase solar inverter with a single phase solar inverter.

AC or DC coupled battery – does it matter?

All of the batteries in our range are AC coupled. This means they need a dedicated battery inverter, but are a simpler installation as they don’t require any modification to an existing solar system.

Can I buy a battery if my solar system is on multiple roof-orientations?

You can buy an AC coupled battery even if your solar system is on multiple roof orientations, as AC batteries don’t require any modification to existing solar system configuration.

Is installation included in the sale price?

Yes. If any site issues are discovered during the site assessment, we will discuss any additional costs with you and obtain your agreement to these, before proceeding.

Are AGL battery installers CEC accredited?


Is lithium-ion hazardous to dispose of at the end of the battery’s life?

Lithium, like other common battery chemistries, is classified as hazardous waste and needs to be disposed of as such.

Does my battery come with back-up power?

AGL’s batteries are back-up power compatible and this is an optional extra. Additional wiring and setup is required in order to power priority loads like lighting and refrigeration during a blackout. Backup power setup and installation costs an additional $899.

How do I know which solar battery will be best for me?

In order to maximise savings from a battery, you will need to have enough excess solar to charge the battery each day and enough energy consumption to discharge it each day.
